Power Plays: Voces para todxs is a workshop for Spanish-bilingual teens interested in discovering the art of theater. In fall semester, you will learn about basic elements of acting, improvisation, and playwriting and start developing a project of your choice. The spring semester will be spent creating a performance–online or in-person–acting and directing each other’s plays and ideas. Students will have total creative freedom over their own pieces and content. We believe theatre is a powerful vehicle for the empowerment of young voices.

If you have a story to tell, need to explore your creative side, want to know a little about theatre, or just want to connect to make friends with other teens, this is your chance. We want to hear your voice and share our creative power together! Student stipend at the end of the spring semester!

Dyana Díaz is a Puerto Rican actress and teaching artist; she earned her B.A. in Performing Arts for the Theatrical Expression at the University of Guadalajara in Mexico, in 2012. There, she was co-founder of Colectivo Transeúnte, a theatre group dedicated to the creation of performances for young audiences. With ColectivoTranseúnte, she worked as an actress, assistant director, stage manager, and producer in numerous performances, locally and internationally. In 2014 she was co-founder of  INART, Institute of the Performing Arts, the first private acting school in Guadalajara, Mexico where she worked as a teaching artist and academic coordinator. In early 2017, she arrived in San Francisco and started working with the SF Youth Theatre staff team, as a teaching artist in various public schools and as a theatre creator. She is extremely excited to develop theatre in Spanish created and performed by the Bay Area’s youth.
