Corazón abierto – Abriendo puertas juntos

We are happy to finally announce that MCCLA is opening its doors after a 15 month closure! As the City reopens on June 15, 2021, so is our favorite Latinx cultural and artistic spot in San Francisco’s Mission District. We surely missed you all, all this time (and suspect you did too). Today, we are looking forward to reconnecting and re-encountering meaningfully in this new beginning. It will take us time to “recover” from the aftermath of such a virus, as well as a good dose of patience to deal with an uncertain environment, and restore our community’s confidence. MCCLA Staff and Board, can assure more than ever its commitment to a diverse, culturally relevant programming, and to an artistically engaging process. It will definitely require your continued participation and support in this exciting juncture.

When you come to our facility, you will notice a renovated passenger elevator, and brand new women & men’s restrooms on the first floor. There’s still a new freight elevator, (to replace the one from the old furniture store), to be fully installed soon. MCCLA will continue to follow City’s health and safety protocols, expecting participants and visitors to work with us to assure clean, safe and well maintained spaces for all to enjoy..

Weekly Classes will gradually begin in July, as we continue adding new ones to the Spring / Summer semester. Please check our website for updated information. Mission Grafica – printmaking classes will also resume in July, and Open Studios hours will increase to accommodate more artists.

Our June events showcase an exciting, diverse line up, to include the Just in Case Woman art exhibit and performances (6/17-7/16), Shamanes en la Ciudad opening premiere (6/18, and our Corazon Abierto Open House (6/26), Open House Workshops will run from 11am to 3pm and include: Paper Mache & Sacred Hearts, Dancing to Caribbean Rhythms, Capoeira, and Healing Plants from California. A community blessing will follow at 3pm. To top it all off, we’ll enjoy a “most magnificent” Juggling performance, and live Latin jazz with The Bay Cats.

As you can see we are so ready to open doors at MCCLA. We welcome you back with an open heart, and invite you to become once again our partner in the Arts, and be part of this most unique cultural experience.

¡Que viva el Arte y la Cultura!
