Happy Holidays

2020’s COVID-19 virus came terribly unexpected, intense, depressing, and mortal.Today, nearing the end of the year, we are still in full blown pandemic, with glimmer hopes of a quick cure.We all have our share of stories; how lives have been impacted and transformed in a definite and perhaps irreversible way.In our particular case, after our March’s closure, we attempted re-entry in November (8 months later), to close a week later by City ordinance; this time until 2021!

Truth is, a single virus brought us a different consciousness, and a thousand and one ways to appreciate our lives, jobs, and relationships, at every level. Nonetheless, and motivated like many others, MCCLA shifted focus… Read More

Happy New Year 2020!

Near Year 2020 Staff Photo

As we close 2019, we can’t help but reflect on the satisfaction of the work done, and on those experiences that challenged us beyond expectations, making us better and stronger. 2019 was certainly an “intense” year in our Barrio, impacting so many, and turning so many others in support of community preservation, respect, and demands for justice. A shout out to all those groups, businesses and agencies who stood strong, advocating and serving despite finite resources.

MCCLA stepped up to the plate, becoming a stronger community anchor, increasing the number of artistic and cultural collaborations, and affording more opportunities for emerging artists. Space and… Read More

Rest In Peace

MCCLA would like to thank the family and daughters of Jose Saucedo, who passed in June 2018, for their generous donation of musical instruments and equipment.

Jose so loved the Center that he expressed his interest months before his passing, and made significant his generous contribution. Heartfelt thanks to Jose's daughters Gabriela and Juliana. On July 29th, a Memorial for Jose was held at MCCLA by family, fellow musicians and friends. Through love, friendship and music, Jose Saucedo brought the community… Read More
