Frida Kahlo: Wings to Fly – Alas para volar is an interactive and interdisciplinary lecture in which Dr. Gloria Arjona addresses the life and work of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo, through texts, media, music and Tableaux Vivants or living pictures.

The title of this presentation refers to the maxim “Feet, what do I need you for, if I have wings to fly?” that Frida adopted after the amputation of her right leg to gain confidence. In using this quote, Dr. Arjona emphasizes how Frida used language, music, and painting to sublimate her constant physical and emotional suffering.
